3 Anti-ageing skin tips

Whilst there are plenty of ways of reversing signs of ageing, the more you can care for your skin and prevent signs of ageing the better. So here are 3 crucial steps you can take to stop premature ageing.

1. Wear sun screen all year round.

The most important part of any skincare regime should always be sun protection. Obviously this is about so much more than just appearance, it’s also about protecting yourself from skin cancer. From an ageing perspective, sun exposure is the number one enemy. As skin experts, if we were only able to give you one piece of skin advice, it would be to wear a moisturiser with an SPF in it all year round, not just in the sunnier months of the year or on holiday. Go for a cream with at least SPF 30 in it. When we say this to our clients, many of them reply that they don’t sunbathe so feel they don’t need to wear an SPF. Whether or not you sunbathe, you absolutely do need to wear an SPF every day if you want to protect your skin from premature ageing.

2. Wash your face daily and as soon as possible after exercise or sweating.

Perspiration causes irritation to the skin and irritation causes premature ageing. Any workout that gets your blood pumping is good news for your skin as increased circulation helps to bring oxygen and nutrients to the surface of the skin. However, sweat that is left lingering on skin causes problems such as blocked pores, breakouts and even rashes. It also increases your likelihood of free-radical damage, aggravates any underlying skin conditions and ultimately causes premature ageing.

3. Don’t use products that irritate your skin in anyway, cause sensations of burning or stinging.

Some of our clients tell us about harsh products they use which give them a squeaky clean feel but sting or burn in order to achieve this. Beware of products like these or any product that strips your skin of its natural oils because this only accentuate fine lines. If you stick to gentle products which are well suited to your skin then your skin will thank you later.
