Description

Chemical peels, also known as skin peels, utilise natural acids and active components to deeply exfoliate the skin, trigger collagen production, and stimulate fresh cell generation and turnover, resulting in a more youthful and radiant skin appearance.

How do skin peels and chemical peels function?

A blend of natural acids and enzymes within skin peels serves to exfoliate the skin, initiating the turnover of cells. This process eliminates dead cells from the surface, promoting the emergence of newer and smoother skin layers underneath. Furthermore, these peels encourage the production of collagen and elastin, aiding in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

The application of a chemical solution onto the face or targeted body areas is a key step. This solution remains on the skin for a short period, penetrating both the outer layer (epidermis) and deeper skin layers. It works to exfoliate and reshape the skin. These powerful combinations of ingredients address various skin concerns, such as diminishing open pores, redness, rosacea, age spots, and blemishes, managing acne, rectifying sun damage, tackling pigmentation issues, and refining fine lines. The results can be genuinely transformative.

Primarily performed on the face, neck, or hands, chemical peels aid in:

• Diminishing fine lines around the eyes or mouth, wrinkles due to aging, sun damage, or hereditary factors.
• Addressing particular forms of acne.
• Alleviating mild scarring.
• Reducing sunspots, age spots, liver spots, freckles, and uneven skin pigmentation.
• Smoothing rough skin, scaly patches, and dull complexion.
• Addressing dark patches (melasma).

Superficial peels are generally safe for all skin types. However, individuals with darker skin tones are at a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, causing skin darkening post-treatment. Consult your therapist for advice on less aggressive treatments to minimise this risk if you have naturally darker skin.

Chemical peels may not be recommended if you have a history of abnormal skin scarring, exhibit increased pigmentation in scars, suffer from skin conditions or take medications that heighten skin sensitivity or cannot avoid sun exposure during the healing phase.

risks

Potential Risk

Following a chemical peel, clients may experience temporary redness, irritation, or swelling, typically subsiding within a few days.

Some cases may also involve temporary changes in skin pigmentation, either darkening or lightening, and increased sensitivity to sunlight, necessitating strict sun protection post-treatment.

Allergic reactions to the chemical solution used during the peel can occur which is why clients must undertake a patch test at least 48hours prior to the treatment taking place.
